You don’t want to imagine an accident on your wedding day, but accidents happen. The stress of planning combined with the flurry of activity can lead to injury if you aren’t careful. So how do you sidestep some of the more common issues?

1. Do: Get a Checkup

Depending on where you live, you may still need to get a blood test to obtain your marriage license. However, even if you don’t, it’s wise for you and your spouse-to-be to book a physical if you have the means.

Don’t: Delay Needed Treatment

If you need surgery, try not to delay it until after the ceremony, if possible. While you might worry about scarring, the anxiety you experience can cast a dark cloud over your big day. Plus, depending on the nature of the issue, your condition could worsen during the interim.

2. Do: Get in Shape

You want your arms to look sleek and toned in your sleeveless gown. By all means, hit the gym and do some biceps curls. It’s also wise to combine healthy, plant-based eating with exercise to truly feel your best.

Don’t: Starve Yourself

It’s unrealistic to drop 10 pounds one week before your wedding. Please don’t fall into the starvation diet trap. When you restrict calories severely, your body slows your metabolism — meaning the weight piles back on more quickly when you finally indulge in that piece of cake.

3. Do: Organize Your Venue

If you’re having your wedding or reception in your backyard, it’s essential to set up the area with foot traffic in mind. After you’ve held the ceremony, there’s going to be a lot of walking, dancing and general movement. If necessary, redesign the outdoor space to accommodate your guests.

Don’t: Wait Until the Last Minute

A full backyard makeover isn’t a last-minute project. You or someone close to you will need to take the time to ensure there’s enough space. More than that, it’s crucial to account for any exposed roots or similar obstacles that could cause a guest to trip.
