Fleece Dog: A Little Bit of Magic Created with Raw Wool and a Special Needle Author: Sinco

Regular price $22.95

It's not a stuffed toy or a knitted toy. It's the cutest miniature dog you've ever seen. And it's easy to make. All you have to do is keep punching a piece of raw wool with a special needle until it takes shape. It works like magic. SINCO developed an innovative technique by adopting hair implanting to achieve what the conventional technique of needle punching alone could not. In addition, she established a method to make a frame that allows you to pose your finished pieces the way you like. We would like to let the world know that by effectively using dog hair, you can easily make "Fleece Dogs" that look more real and adorable.

What is a fleece dog? Fleece Dog® is a small stuffed dog made with wool or dog hair. The name Fleece Dog® came from the word "fleecy" that means soft and fluffy, just like wool.

It's so easy - just thread the wool with the odd shaped needle, and you can create a variety of dogs, just like that! Fine gradations are created by mixing many types of wools with a variety of colors and qualities selected to create an authentic look for each type of dog. It is possible to create a stuffed dog just like the real one - you can even make a tiny copy of your pet by mixing real dog hair into the wool.

You can use your dog's real hair that comes off from everyday brushing or trimming. Isn't that a good idea? Fleece Dog® has a flexible body shape allowing it to have any pose you like, making it truly irresistible for dog lovers. Watch closely for your pet's own characteristic movements, then try to create a "baby" version with Fleece Dog®!

The Birth of Fleece Dog

I make animal-shaped topiaries as part of my work. Recently, I have been making lots of dogs with different expressions. It is a pleasure to express the unique characteristics of various breeds in three-dimensional work, because I am a dog-lover in the first place.

One day a friend of mine showed me some sheep's fleece and an intriguing needle. The needle was part of a machine used in a felt factory. I found that by punching a piece of crumpled fleece with this barbed felting needle, I could easily make the fleece into a well-defined ball. I thought I could probably make three-dimensional objects and immediately set out to make a miniature of my dog.

Until then I had worked with moss, the material for topiaries. With the unusual needle and different types of fleece, I could represent the colors and textures of dog hair in a way that was impossible with moss. It opened up possibilities for new pieces of work.

That was only the beginning. Avidly I started making models of one breed of dog after another. I was absorbed in matching the qualities and colors of the fleece with the different types of dog. Having learned that wool and other yarns were suitable for my purpose, I wondered if I could use dog hair. I collected hair from my dog and my friends donated hair from theirs. I kept making models of dogs, using real dog hair. Now there are several dozens of them. Looking at them, I said to myself, "I must put together a book!"

I call the little dogs Fleece Dogs. The word "fleece" may make you think of a soft synthetic fabric, but those who deal in raw wool call sheep's wool "fleece." I got the idea from the word "fleecy" and decided to name the little dogs Fleece Dogs, which is easy to remember.

That was how Fleece dogs came into being. You can easily make them using fleece, dog hair, and a magical needle.
